My NIN (I covered the data due to security reasons)
Have you ever heard about National Insurance Number (NIN) in UK ??? I bet for those who willing to work and living  in UK.. you know about it, since you will need it ;) It's kinda important thing here. National Insurance number is personal account number. The number makes sure that the National Insurance contributions and tax you pay are properly recorded on your account. It also acts as a reference number for the whole social security system.

First time I realized that I need the NIN is when I wanted to open a Bank account. all the Bank kept asking me...
Bank : Miss, do you have NIN??
Me : Ummm what do you mean?? excuse me what iss that NIN???
Bank : The National Insurance Number!!
Me : Ahh okay how do I get it??
Bank : You should apply first then you can come again to our Bank. (smile and leave)
Me : £##€!!!*#€&% (confused)

Shortly, I decided to apply for it, so How do you get the National Insurance Number?? Here they are..

All you have to do is go to the nearest Job Center to your residents, more info you can click the link below.

I went to North Kensington Job Centre, as I lived in Earls Court, Kensington area.. so they suggest me to apply there. The officer was really helpful and nice one. He asked all my data, documents (make sure  you bring all your documents, proof of your identity, visa, marry certificated, passport, proof of your residents such last post-mail to your address, bill, or etc). I suggest you to ask directly to the Job center.

The next step.. a letter will be posted to you for your NIN Appointment (Interview). My interview took place at Job Center Plus, Upper Tooting Rd, London. On that day, I brought all the papers, the letter from Job center, took the waiting number, and got an Interview for about 10 minutes (they will asking your docs, reasons your staying in UK, why do you applied for NIN, ecc)

The NIN letter will coming through your mail about 1-2 weeks after the Interview (you will receive only the number without the card, but still u can use the letter to apply social services such open a bank account or apply a job). Then the NIN Card will be posted to you up to 6-8 weeks.

There you go. I think its really important thing to have. The NIN itself is once in a lifetime and forever.. It doesn't have expired date. Your National Insurance number never changes even if you go abroad, marry, register as a civil partner, change your name, etc.

Hope this Help ;) Henny
