Visa Entrance to UK - EEA Family Permit

It's been a long time I willing to write about Visa Entrance to UK for European Family member... they called it Visa EEA (European Economic Area) Family Permit. This visa is for non-EEA member family, if your spouse is one of EEA member.. you can travel to UK with this kind of visa with condition !!! that you travel together with your spouse or you willing to join your spouse in UK.

I am an Indonesian citizen (non-EEA) and my husband is Italian (EEA member) so this visa is right for me if I traveling to UK with my husband or to join my husband in UK. For Italy, the visa need to be issued in Rome. The official agency is WorldBridge Visa.

Updated 2014 for apply visa check to the link here https://www.gov.uk/family-permit

I contacted so many unofficial agency and they charged a lots for this visa, without guarantee that your visa will be approved. Meanwhile the original fee is FREE. So my friend in Rome and Milan, gave me some information about the official visa agency. (Grazie cara Indah e Intan) . So continuing their kindness to me.. now I'm gonna share to you, so you don't need to go to another agency cos here everything is official and simple. No worries as long as your documents is complete ;)

HOW TO SUBMIT THE VISA ???
Here Steps to apply for it :

  • Make an appointment to visit either a Visa Application Center or Mobile Biometric Clinic (where available). They will asking you some questions such the reasons why do you want to travel to UK, they will check your documents, finger prints and new picture of you. Make sure your photograph meet their requirements (check here Photograph International Standards  If you're lucky enough.. you will get a happy officer who always smile and joke on you ( I got that :p )
  • Attend your appointment to submit your biometrics information (and any required documentation). What documents that you need to provide.. you can click here Documents for Visa EEA Family Permit
  • Your visa application and documents will be reviewed by the UK Border Agency and they will make a decision on issuing a visa.
  • Your documents are ready to be returned to you (direct to home, you will pay the postal service). It tooks 3 days for me to arrived at home. Fast and Reliable service !!
  • The Visa's Fee is FREE of Charge ^.^ (Yeahhhh) ... but some additional service like postal service and photograph service might occurred. Just don't leave your wallet ;))

Any questions, updated and changed info related to VISA UK you can always check to the website..

Additional :
As so many questions coming to my blog and am afraid i cudn’t reply them on time, so here my case when i applied for EEA Family Permit Visa. I am Non EEA Citizen (Indonesian) and my Husband is EEA Citizen (Italian), we are married in Indonesia and then we registered our Marriage in Italy (So i got both of marriage certificates). Obviously the most important documents that I needed for visa :

1st. Marriage Certificates (Original, Italian, Indonesian and English version, I asked the Comune/Council for the Italian and International/English version. Just ask Comune that you want an International Marriage Certificate, It contains lots language include English, and No Charge. Its free).

2nd. Permesso di Soggiorno or Proof of Residence that I am reside in Italy. As i applied my visa in Rome so i have to proof them that i am an Italian resident, NOT a Tourist!!
Another example, If i live in France, so i should apply my visa in Paris, not in Italy. You should apply the visa from your resident place, where you live!! If you are tourist in Italy, even if your spouse is Italian, you cannot apply this in Rome, cos obviously you don’t have any Italian Proof of Residence (Permesso di Soggiorno).

3rd. Passport (original), Latest Picture (even they will take another digital picture when interviewing you), Certificato di Famiglia (Family Certificate), Carta di Identità (Italian Identity Card), Other Supported documents that they asking you from online application. The more documents, the better.

After applied online, i booked online for the appointment in Rome, I attended the interview and bring all the documents with me. They will interview you, not your spouse. Only you!! Don’t be panic, they will asking you the reason of your journey and other questions just like in your online application.

Please always refer to the UK Visa website for the update, as the UK law is always changing and the brexit ahead. Hope these helps and Good Luck.

See you in UK
Henny

  5. HI Henny Reale,

I am an Indian national and spouse of EEA member (Italy), we're currently residing in India and wishes to relocate to the UK as Job seekers and would be renting an accommodation only after we arrive in the UK. My question is do you think it's possible to apply for the EEA family permit from outside UK and even though if the EEA member is not currntly living or working in the UK? Also do you think this information is true "EEA nationals wishing to relocate to the UK with their foreign family member in the near future. According to EEA Regulations, there is an initial right of residence for three months, which means that an EEA national sponsor does not need to be exercising their treaty rights if they are based outside the UK at the time of application"? Thanks!

    1. Hello,
I am really sorry for my late reply, i will update my info above as the UK gov has changed the site for the visas services directly to https://www.gov.uk/family-permit
You can check there. As long as you traveling together with your EEA husband from India to UK, i think you can apply EEA Visa furthermore you can check on their site.

If you wishes to be Job seekers, i suggest you to apply for National Insurance Number and register as a Job Seeker at the nearest Job centre. You can see on my another post how to apply National Insurance Number. Hope these helps and Good luck ^^

    1. Ciao Philip, scusami per il ritardo.
Allora se sei Italiano non hai bisogno di visto per entrare inghilterra.
Solo passport e carta identita italiana. Quindi uguale per i tuoi figli.
You dont need to apply visa for enter UK, if you are italian (european citizen). That goes the same for your children, if they have italian passport, they don't need to apply a visa to enter. But for sure you can check on UK immigration website.
      Hope these helps.

  8. Hi Henny, thanks for your sharing that so much helpful. I am Vietnamese and my spouse is EEC Portugal currently working in UK. I read that your visa had to be issued in Italy, then my question is I am currently live in Vietnam, Can my visa issued in VIetnam or I had to come to Portugal to apply?
My second question is that do we need any financial requirement since I read in the website It didnt show up the minimum income requirements. I have finished my study already then, of course I have no income yet, but my spouse is working in UK with 24k p/a. Thanks and hope your reply soon

    1. Hi Linh,
I think you can apply your visa in Vietnam, you just have to apply it online and I guess they will giving u information for ur next appointment to submit your documents. In my case, due to my residents was in Italy, so I got my appointment in Rome.
So it's not depend on your spouse nationality ;)
Even in my opinion, that would be easier if you have a Permanent Resident card in Europe Country, it took only 3 days for me to get the visa.

Indeed they will asking you about financial documents, if you don't have any, at least you need to submit ur spouse financial in UK. At this time, the UK gov has been very strictly about everything, so they want to make sure that once you arrive here, you won't get any financial problem. They didn't mention the minimum limit, I have no clue about it, but if your spouse have a stable financial account (weekly/monthly wage), I think there is no problem for you. My suggest is you should submit as complete as you can from the required documents. The more the better. Invitation letter from ur spouse, marriage certificate, ecc. Hope everything will go smoothly for you to join ur spouse.
      Best luck Linh ^^

    1. Hi Phillip, I think you have to apply this for yourself, just follow the registration online. In condition that your father need to travel together with you, or he already stay in UK and you willing join him.
Then you can apply for the EEA visa. If you travel alone and he stay in switzerland, you cannot apply this visa, u need tourist visa.

Since you are married to an Italian citizen, it make sense that the documents you have submitted to the agency are Italian which had been translated to English. My question is, where specifically did you have those documents translated and how much did it cost you ?

You can go there with ur husband, both of you can also find a job once get to UK.
Of course to get a job, u should apply for National Insurance Number (if you are lucky, your company will apply it for you, otherwise you should apply by yourself).
They will send you a bunch list of documents that u need to prepare to get the visa, they are different on each case, but for sure u need to prepare ur permit residence in spain, marriage certificate, paspor, etc.

  21. Hi
When you did it, your husband was already in the uk? Or that is not necessary? Because i am going to italy with my husband (it's the same situation, he has the italian citzenship and i want to do the EEA Family) but i'd like to know if he MUST be at the uk when i'm doing the visa or he can be with me in italy while i'm doing this. Thanks

    1. Ciao Andressa,
You can go together with him to UK. Ur husband can be with you in italy when u applying the visa. No problemo. It is better when you go to the interview with your husband, even though they will only interview the applicant (you). Buona fortuna ;)

    2. Ahh! Got it. I am reading again about the visa but let me explain better what I will do. My husband has all his documents at the italian council here in Brazil (we were born here). At the italian council they are sending all the documents of my husband so he can go to Italy and just take his passport because here in Brazil it takes like more than 6 months so we wanted to do this a little bit faster since i finished college and we both want to go to England. OK... my problem is that i am not a EU citzen and when my husband get his italian passport we will be in Italy and i wanted to apply for the EEA Family in Italy so i don't need to get back to Brazil. What is in my mind is that on the questionary there is this sentence written "If you are not a national of the country in which you are applying,
evidence of your permission to be in that country e.g. a residence
permit, visa, green card". I think it means i can't make the EEA in Italy?! I don't know there is some kind of visa or something in Italy that I could use for doing the EEA Family, since my husband is a italian citzen and he will be with his passport there already... I am afraid I will need to go back to Brazil just to apply for the visa >:( I don't know if you have any kind of information about people that weren't italian but even this way they could make the EEA Family Permit in Italy. I don't know if it is a great problem, because I would be there as a tourist, and tourists have 3 months to stay at the country, right? Sorry about the long question, is just that I am super scared about that because if i go back to Brazil just to do that it will cost a lot of money. Thank you.

    3. Hi Henny - my wife is Indonesian as well and we are currently living in Italy. Would she be able to apply for EEA family permit while in Italy on a tourist visa or do we need to apply for a residence card first? also what documents did you provide with your application if you don't mind me asking? Thank you so much!

  22. Hi Andressa,
You need permesso di soggiorno or residence card in Italy to apply the visa from Italy. Its a proof that u have been living in Italy at least more than 3 months so you can apply the visa from Rome. Otherwise u have to apply from ur original country (Brazil)

  23. Hi Marco..
I think she needs to apply for permesso di soggiorno at first.. As its one of required document.

As I am living in UK, I would like to ask you if after the marriage she can apply to EEA Family Permit just with the marriage certificate or it is necessary the" permesso di soggiorno" (actually I can't proof to "QUestura" that I am living with her in Italy because I am registered in AIRE of London! Let me know if you know some case or can you contact me with someone that faced the same problem! Thanks in advance!

    2. Ciao Davide,

The point is when you apply visa for UK at Rome, you need to be resident in Italy, she will need Permesso Soggiorno. Otherwise I think she can apply for UK Visa from her origin country or resident country. As Permesso Soggiorno is the main document beside your marriage certificate. For example if I am a tourist in Italy, I cannot apply visa UK from Rome, I have to go back to my resident country, it's kinda proof of residence. But you can try to apply without submit her Permesso Soggiorno, it's a free visa, in case they decline her application, I guess she will need to apply from her resident country. Hope these helps.
